I first heard the tales of Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally's wonderful marriage - by listening to the Nerdist Podcast episode with Jason Schwartzman: Listen Here - in which Nick Offerman walks by the building. Jonah (I think) tears out of the interview to try and catch him. It's a really great episode. Schwartzman seems like a powerfully good dude.
The 20 solid minutes of Offerman enthusiasm compelled me to listen to the interview that later came out: Listen Here -- Highlights were the tales of Megan Mullally and Offerman meeting and falling in love.
So it was wonderful last night when Antonio Mercado, of CU Denver introduced the couple by stating he knew them from "busting them making out" on the play where they first met.
The Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver is kind of out of this world amazing, and huge. Mercado invited everyone in the upper levels to move down and crowd in - so it was a happy, active, boisterous and drunken crowd that greeted his final remarks 'you guys are in for a fucking treat' with cheers.
Mullally and Hunt, the lead singers of Nancy and Beth are goosebumps good. Their band is one happy backing band. And Offerman, when he came in, was a show stealer. The vibe at the show was particularly loose and friendly, probably helped by the fact that it was arranged by a good friend of the couple and was benefiting a scholarship in Megan and Nick's honor for acting.
As far as content, it's difficult to describe - but I'd say Nancy & Beth fits perfectly into the wheelhouse of a singer/comedy buff. If you get the opportunity, see them, even if you are not either of those things. The stage chemistry of the entire group makes the performance worth it.
And also the puss jokes.
